Next to Normal, a rock musical, revolves around the lives of the Goodman family. Diana Goodman, the matriarch of the family suffers from bipolar disorder and hallucinations. Much of the musical focuses on her struggle with her disorder, and the effect this has on her family. This design captured the feelings of confusion and insanity mixed with a rock and roll concert. Some of the elements included many curving, winding staircases, and a ground row of steel towers that continued to tip as Diana slipped further into her psychosis.
